One week left to audition for Episodes 1-3

Just a reminder folks - you have until this Friday to audition for roles in Episodes 1-3 of "Spider-Man: Tangled Webs". While there will be other casting calls for future episodes, and there will be some other major characters added later on (Felicia Hardy, Betty Brant, J. Jonah Jameson and most of the other villains), many of the major roles for the series will be cast based on these auditions.

So, if you want to wow me with your Peter Parker, MJ, Aunt May or Norman Osborn, now is the time!

Thanks!

Casting Call For Episodes 1-3

Ok, to all you voice actors out there in cyber-space. My brother and I are starting up our own audio-drama company, and for our first forary we're looking at producing “Spider-Man: Tangled Webs”. This will be a contemporary take on Spider-Man, with Peter Parker and his friends being teenagers in the later part of the first decade of the 21st century.

I'm aiming for a monthly distribution of the series, with a bit of lead time on them. I'm hoping to get the first episode out in June. So, this initial casting call will include the characters from the first three episodes. Episodes 4 and 5 will also be written, cast and (hopefully) recorded by the time the first episode hits the web. This does mean that if you're auditioning for a principal or recurring role, then I'm going to be expecting more from you in the future – and I'd really rather not recast characters.

Audition info:
Please record all the lines for one character in one file.
Please record in MP3 format at 44100Hz and 128 bit rate or higher.
Please label your auditions Character Name_Your name.
Please send all auditions in a zipped (please not RAR-ed) file to aeinhorn AT gmail DOT com no later than Friday, March 13th. All auditions received will be acknowledged. Casting announcements should go out by the following Friday, March 20th.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at the above e-mail.

We will be setting up a website for our audio company, to distribute the final broadcast episodes, etc. This blog is simply a placeholder until we complete the website (and settle on a name).

Principal/Recurring Characters - Male
PETER PARKER – Peter is a sixteen year old kid, somewhat of a nerd, who shortly into the series becomes bitten by a genetically modified spider. As Spider-Man, he uses humor and sarcasm to cover Peter's general insecurity.
Line 1: It's... something my dad was working on before he died. It's a fast drying adhesive – it's stronger than anything on the market, and a small amount expands a lot when exposed to the air, so a small tube goes a long way.
Line 2: Flash Thompson has been picking on me for years. Years! Since first grade! And have I ever done anything to him? No! Not once! So, one time, one time I actually put up some resistance, and I get suspended.
Line 3: (while fighting) And let you connect with one of those haymakers? Do I look stupid? On second thought, I did leave the house dressed like this, so let's not answer that. Then again, at least my tights are color-coordinated. Did you let your boyfriend dress you like that?

HARRY OSBORN – Harry is Peter's best friend, and the only son of Norman Osborn, a very wealthy industrialist and scientist. Harry has an strained relationship with his father, and may not be as good of a friend as Peter thinks he is. He is also dating Mary Jane at the beginning of the series.
Line 1: What kind of best friend would I be if I didn't look out for you? Besides, I need to do something to repay you for all the science tests you kept me from flunking.
Line 2: What was I supposed to say? Feel bad for the rich kid whose dad doesn't love him enough? Who would buy that?
Line 3: (Fading out) Today's his birthday? How'd I forget that today was his birthday?

FLASH THOMPSON – Popular, charming and a bully. Flash is the BMOC and he knows it. Often surrounded by his girlfriend, Liz Allen, and his friend/flunkie Eddie. Flash frequently picks on Peter, but will end up being Spider-Man's biggest fan.
Line 1: Osborn won't always be around to protect you, Parker. Watch your step.
Line 2: (exasperated) Sure, that's what they told us. But right when he got back, he asked to be switched to a new lab partner. And that's when Dr. Connors paired him with Parker.
Line 3: Yeah, yeah, well we can't all be braniacs like Parker. Speaking of, has anyone seen that little geek since yesterday?

EDDIE BROCK – A bit of a bully, Eddie is Flash's near-constant companion. Eddie is the kind of kid who hides his own insecurities by picking on others. Eddie truly despises Peter, for reasons unknown at the beginning of the series. (And Eddie will eventually become Venom, but not for quite a while)
Line 1: Either that or he's just doing it to kiss up to Harry. You know, play nice with dad so the rich kid likes you.
Line 2: Hey, there he is. Looks like Parker is still clinging to Osborn's pant legs.
Line 3: I was just looking for you, and... (sees Peter) What're you doing talking to him?

UNCLE BEN – Peter's father figure, Ben is in his 60s, and is responsible for instilling a sense of responsibility and family in Peter. He dies in the second episode (which should be a spoiler to no one), but his voice will appear in Peter's memories throughout the series.
Line 1: (laughs) I was joking before, but I guess you really did forget. Your birthday, Peter. Tomorrow is your birthday. We were going to give these to you then, but I think you've had a rough enough day that you deserve them today.
Line 2: Fighting doesn't solve anything. It just leads to people being hurt. You're a smart boy, Peter. You have potential to be a great man, with great power. But Peter, with great power must also come great responsibility.
Line 3: We'll do what we can, and we'll send Peter into the world as well prepared as is possible. Times are hard, May. But we'll get through them. We still have each other, and Peter. We'll be ok.

NORMAN OSBORN – Ruthless and cruel, Norman Osborn is a scientific genius, the CEO of OsCorp, and also, quite possibly, a psychopath. And that is before he becomes the Green Goblin. The Goblin side to Norman should have a slightly different voice, but it should still be recognizably him.
Line 1: Nonsense, son. No false modesty from the greatest scientific mind in town. Next to my own, of course.
Line 2: Good. Because if you ever hurt my son.... (Green Goblin voice) I'd rip your lungs out.
Line 3: And if he died for other reasons, something completely unrelated to the accident at the lab? Would anything lead back to us then?

PRINCIPAL WOODWARD – The principal at Midtown High. Principal Woodward is generally compassionate, and far more hip about what happens in his school then his students realize.
Line 1: I'm not unaware of what goes on inside my school. I know that Flash Thompson has been picking on you since the first day of your freshman year, and probably even before that.

DR. CURT CONNORS – Curt Connors was a researcher at OsCorp before he lost his arm in an accident. He now teaches biology at Midtown High, and is Peter's mentor in many ways.
Line 1: I want everyone to understand that OsCorp's facilities are top-of-the line, and extremely delicate and sensitive. No one is to touch anything.

DR. STILLWELL – Doctor Stillwell is a researcher at OsCorp who is working with Norman on the Oz formula. Stillwell is brilliant, and just slightly too ethical to be working at OsCorp.
Line 1: From what I see, I think you may have exceeded the Super-Soldier Serum's effects, in some ways. Where the original serum was intended to bring a human body to the peak of human potential, a pure dose of Oz could take a subject to truly superhuman levels.
Line 2: I would be extremely cautious about administering this formula to anyone who had any sort of mental healh issues – especially those rooted in a chemical imbalance. The Oz could very easily exponentially increase those problems.

MAXWELL DILLON/ELECTRO – A formerly small-time crook exposed to an accident involving a downed power line, Electro is (now) arrogant and cocky. That covers up the fact that he knows that underneath it all, he's still Max Dillon.
Line 1: Yeah, you'd think that, wouldn't you? But then, Electro, the human dynamo, doesn't need a gun to do this!
Line 2: So, you took your best shot. My turn.
Line 3: Naw, babe. Max Dillon was strictly small-time. He's gone now. I'm Electro, from here on out. Max couldn't knock over a truck stop without problems. But look at me!

Principal/Recurring Characters - Female
MARY JANE WATSON – The girl next door, and the love of Peter's life, although she doesn't know it. Mary Jane is smart, compassionate and spirited. She is dating Harry Osborn at the start of the series.
Line 1: Well, I do live next door. We've been friends since forever. Our aunts are best friends, and I'm dating your best friend. Oh yeah, and you were bitten by an insect, passed out and rushed to the hospital today. Do I need more of a reason then that to come by and check on you?
Line 2: Now I know you're messed up in the head. (laughs) Watch out, that big brain of yours must be turning into mush. Besides, silly, how would you know? You're not wearing your glasses.

LIZ ALLEN – Flash Thompson's girlfriend, and not half as mean as she lets people believe she is. She deeply cares about Flash, but wishes he was a bit nicer to people. She can be slightly witchy, but she's in high school. Most high-school girls grow out of that phase.
Line 1: God, I cannot believe we have to write a paper about this. Who cares about any of this stuff?
Line 2: I'm going to try to make Flash leave you alone once he gets back to school. But I want you to know that if you do something like that to him ever again, I will never forgive you.

AUNT MAY – Peter's aunt and mother figure. May is in her sixties, and dotes on Peter. She is somewhat frail in health, but she is not senile.
Line 1: No, absolutely not. Peter is coming home with us.
Line 2: Peter has always been a delicate boy.
Line 3: As if there were any spiders under my table! (gentle laugh) Get back up here and sit yourself down. There is plenty for everyone. I was only teasing.

ANNA WATSON – Aunt May's best friend and MJ's Aunt.
Line 1: Well, no wonder. She and your uncle were married for close to forty years now. It would have been forty exactly, this May. They married in May, you know. Your Uncle thought that marrying May in May was just... appropriate.

We are also in need of an announcer. This will be recurring, obviously, and can be male or female.
ANNOUNCER
Line: You have been listening to Spider-Man: Tangled Webs, Episode One: Along Came a Spider. Story written by Aaron Einhorn, based on ideas and characters created by Stan Lee.

One-shot characters
SCIENTISTS 1 & 2 – Doomed scientists who work at OsCorp and who make the mistake of telling Norman the truth – not what he wants to hear. (Male or female)
Line: Mr. Osborn, that's what I'm trying to explain to you. We don't know where the specimen is. We're certain it's still in the genetics lab.

DOCTOR – The doctor who treats Peter after he is bitten at OsCorp. (Male or female)
Line: As I was saying, we can't say for certain, since one of his fellow students stomped on the spider. But Peter seems to be recovering well enough. He fainted inside OsCorp, but that may have been the result of shock. His vital signs all appear to be strong and stable, but we would like to keep him here overnight for observation.

BRUNO – Hired muscle for Mr. Osborn. (Male)
Line: (whispered) Mr. Osborn, the subject evaded the attack. No, sir, I didn't miss. He evaded the attack. He jumped over the car. Twelve feet in the air, easy. That's what I said. Twelve feet.

STUDENTS 1 & 2 – Random students at MidTown High. (Male or female)
Line: Who would've thought Peter had that in him?

BANK TELLER – Employee at the bank robbed by Electro. (Male or female)
Line: Good morning, sir. How can I help you today?

SECURITY GUARD – Employee at the bank robbed by Electro. (Male or female)
Line: Halt! You, the freak in the green and yellow Halloween costume! Put your hands up, and get down on the ground!

NEWS ANCHOR – Voice heard on the nightly news. (This character may be slightly recurring. Male or female)
Line: This was the footage from the Second National Bank this afternoon, as a costumed criminal, calling himself “Electro” robbed the bank

ARENA MANAGER – The manager of the arena where Spider-Man makes his first appearance. Unscrupulous and a bit of a jerk. (Male)
Line: Kid, you look like you weigh one-twenty, soaking wet. I don't see any muscles on you. Bonesaw'll kill you. Besides that, I doubt it'd even be that entertaining for the crowd to watch. Go on, get outta here. You wanna kill yourself, I hear the Brooklyn Bridge is a popular choice.

RING ANNOUNCER – The announcer for the wrestling match. (Male or female)
Line: Ladies and gentlemen, coming to the red corner of the ring, accompanied by his ever-present Bonesaw Babes, I give you, your champion. Weighing in at two-hundred and eighty pounds, all the way from Columbus, Ohio, the man with the deadly hands; the ultimate weapon of mass destruction; the incomparable Bonesaw McGee!

CANDY – Girl picked up by Electro at the Bar with No Name. (May become recurring. Female)
Line: Oooh. Impressive. So, if you're a supervillain now, does that mean you're going to get in fights with superheroes?

BARTENDER – Bartender at the Bar with No Name (May become recurring. Male or Female)
Line: Hey! No powers inside the bar!

BONESAW McGEE – Spider-Man's first-ever opponent. Bonesaw is large, powerful and arrogant and nearly undefeated in the wrestling ring. Please, for copyright reasons, do not just do a Macho Man Randy Savage impersonation here. (Male)
Line: Come here kid, Bonesaw will cut you down to size!

BURGLAR – The thief who robs first the arena, and then Uncle Ben. He is a killer, but not homicidal. (Male)
Line: Made it! They'll never find me in here. Heck, they'd be idiots to try. I can hide out here as long as I need to. And if they send anyone inside? Ha! Let 'em try. Making themselves big old targets with their flashlights in the dark. It's their funeral. Now, to find someplace to hide.

DETECTIVE – Detective on the scene when Peter finds out that Uncle Ben was killed. (Male)
Line: Son, I'm sorry to tell you this but there was a home invasion. He had a gun. And your uncle tried to stop him. But...

OFFICERS 1 & 2 – NYPD officers trying to track down the Burglar after he flees the Parker residence. (Male or female)
Line: So, what do we do now? Just let him escape? I still think we should go in after him.

PRIEST – Officiant at Uncle Ben's funeral (Male)
Line: We have come together to remember before God the life of Benjamin Parker, to bless this, his remains, and to commend him to God's keeping. We are also here in sympathy and love to comfort his wife, May and his nephew, Peter and all who mourn...
